What is Ndis?
The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is an initiative by the Australian Government to support people with disability. It is run by the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA). The NDIS provides funding to individuals with a permanent and significant disability to access the supports and services they need to live and enjoy their life.
How do I know if I am eligible for funding?
To receive funding from the NDIS, you need to follow the steps listed below.
You must reside in Australia and be an Australian citizen, hold a permanent visa, or a Protected Special Category visa. You must be aged under 65 when you first apply for the NDIS. You should also have a permanent disability that significantly affects your ability to take part in everyday activities.
If you meet the eligibility criteria, the next step is to make an application. You can do this online or by contacting the NDIS directly. The application will require evidence of your disability and how it impacts your life.
Once your application is accepted, you’ll work with a representative from the NDIS to create a plan. This plan will outline your goals and aspirations, the supports you need to achieve them, and how your funding will be allocated.
Once your plan is approved, you can start accessing supports and services. You will have choice and control over who provides your supports and how they are provided.
Other Disability Support Funding Programs
If you are over 65 and need support, the Australian Government provides a different scheme called the Commonwealth Home Support Programme. This programme provides a range of entry-level aged care services for older people who need assistance to keep living independently at home and in their community. If you are an older person who needs a higher level of support, the Home Care Packages programme provides four levels of package, each with a different funding amount.
